Nano- filtration is used to soften (remove multivalent cations) and remove the precursors of disinfection by-products (such as natural organic matter and synthetic organic matter), such as the total dissolved solids in surface water and fresh water.
Nano-filtration is also more common in the food industry. Such as dairy products, used for simultaneous, concentration and partial demineralization (monovalent ions).
